Farmhouse Mudroom Inspiration

Slowly but surely I’m rolling out all of our farmhouse renovation reveals! This week I’ll be sharing our farmhouse mudroom reveal! BUT FIRST, some farmhouse mudroom inspiration is in store!

Living on a farm it is ESSENTIAL to have a mudroom! A space to take off your muddy, filthy boots, hang up your coats and coveralls, and wash up for supper! On occasion, the mudroom is also used for mixing bottles for baby calves, prepping cattle medicine, and even washing up some dirty garden veggies. It can be a messy room!

Our early 1900’s farmhouse originally had a screened in back porch that acted as the mudroom. Many years later, new owners enclosed the porch for more living space changing the layout of the main floor. When we acquired this house the porch was a sunroom/dining/mudroom area.

The trouble was that the back door still came right into the main living space. We tracked in dirt and mud throughout the house and there wasn’t enough space for all of our boots and bulky coats throughout the winter months. We had a dining room table here at one point but this space was always dirty, messy and awkward for our lifestyle.

Here is a photo of our sunroom/dining room/mudroom BEFORE:

And just off our kitchen was our small laundry room nook BEFORE:

You may remember this laundry room BEFORE & AFTER > HERE.

During our renovation we added some square footage allowing us to have a full mudroom/laundry room just inside our new back door location. The sunroom you saw above is now part of our dining room (the back door isn’t there anymore!). Stay tuned for the reveal later this week!

Here are some photos that inspired my design for our farmhouse mudroom /laundry room.

While I loved so many of these mudroom photos, I really feel like my final choices were unique in design, functional for our lifestyle and true to the look of our home. Come back here on Thursday for the BIG REVEAL!
