A simple and easy recipe for homemade donuts the whole family will beg for! Enjoy these donuts with chocolate icing and sprinkles, cinnamon and sugar, or an amazing caramel icing! Craving a classic glazed donut? I’ve got the perfect recipe for those as well!
It’s Father’s Day weekend and I know nothing would make dad happier on Sunday morning than these homemade donuts!
This recipe is so easy it’s hardly a recipe at all!
We’re going to start with a can of good ole store-bought biscuits! Pop ’em open and cut out your donut holes.
My grandma always used a thimble to cut the holes so that’s what I’m using today. Just warms my heart and gives me all the nostalgic feels.
Then we will simply fry the donuts in some hot oil in a cast iron skillet. I did tell you these were a YUMMY treat!
Let them cool for just a second so you can handle them and then… icing!
I mean, honestly, just the fried donut itself is amazing but adding a layer of sugar on top is… well… the sugar on top! Sinfully delicious!
Chocolate Sprinkle Donuts: I melted some milk chocolate I already had on hand (in the form of a leftover Easter bunny, haha!) with about a tablespoon of heavy whipping cream. Then I stirred in a tiny bit of coconut oil for some shine and to help the chocolate setup.
Cinnamon & Sugar Donuts: I simply put about half a cup of sugar into a bowl and sprinkled in about a tablespoon of cinnamon and stirred to combine. Keep these leftovers! Great for cinnamon toast too!
And last but not least, my favorite…
Caramel Iced Donuts: I melted unsalted butter in a small saucepan and added brown sugar to dissolve and just begin bubbling. Then I turned off the heat and stirred in the heavy whipping cream, salt and vanilla. Then I transferred to a bowl and added powdered sugar until it came to the right consistency.
The caramel icing was a bit more work than the others BUT totally worth it!
Dip the fresh donuts into your favorite toppings and enjoy! Get the whole family in on the fun! Our kids LOVE to do the sprinkles!

A couple donut-making tips:
I recommend eating these FRESH! They will last a day or so in an air-tight container but they’ll never be as yummy as they are right after you make them! You can’t beat the slightly crisp edges and fluffy, warm center!
When frying these, begin with the donut holes to test the oil. Use a fork to carefully flip the donuts over – it’s less messy that way!
And lastly, make these for a crowd! They are so addictive, I could eat them until I’m absolutely sick! So SHARE! Haha!
