So we’ve all said it… “I wish Joanna Gaines would just come and decorate my house!” If you are anything like me, you love the “Fixer Upper Style” from Chip and Jo’s HGTV show! It’s a bit traditional, a bit unique, a bit farmhouse, and always my style!
It’s highly unlikely any of us will ever have Joanna Gaines come and transform our homes but we can add that Fixer Upper Style to our homes all on our own! Yes, you can!
Check out this list!
7 Ways To Add Fixer Upper Style To Your Home:
#1 Unique Light Fixtures:
Start by changing out some light fixtures! You can find so many reasonably priced light fixtures at your local home improvement store. If you don’t find the perfect one, consider spray painting it! If you come across an antique or a thrift store find to repurpose, fix it up and have it safely rewired for your home! The perfect light fixture can really set off a room!
# 2 Large Antique Statement Pieces
I love antiques and thrifty finds as much as the next person. However, when it comes to large statement pieces I love how Joanna finds the most unique pieces and uses them as focal points in her decor. Next time your out shopping, don’t overlook the large (and sometimes more expensive) pieces. If you absolutely love it, invest and let it be the star of the room!
#3 Let In The Natural Light!
No matter your decor style, you can’t argue that natural light is essential in making your home shine… literally. Open up those blinds and let the warming sun shine in! Your home will feel more welcoming and your spirit will instantly be lifted! This is something YOU CAN DO TODAY!
#4 Declutter & Find Unique Storage
Give yourself a break, most of the homes we see on Fixer Upper are staged for television! These families have not yet moved all of their belongings into the home! I think the important take-away from the Fixer Upper Style is to declutter your space! I like to pack away all of the ugly items around the house behind cabinet doors and display the rest using baskets, old antique boxes, unique furniture, open shelving and the like. Living with less clutter and getting organized will help you achieve this look!
#5 Going Green
This is probably the one I fail at the most! Liven up your home with plants, greenery and flowers! This small addition can make rooms feel fresh, airy and welcoming! Add some touches of green into your home, even if they aren’t fresh or live plants. I love Joanna’s unique planters and wreath displays. Doesn’t walking into a room with flowers just make you smile?
#6 Neutral Color Palette
I always thought I liked neutral colors because they are easy to accessorize. But Joanna made me realize neutral color palettes are lovely because they keep things simple and allow the unique features of the home to stand out in perfect contrast! The natural wood, stone, metal, and glass accents all work timelessly with a neutral color palette. Let your unique pieces pop with a neutral backdrop.
#7 Beautiful Words
The Fixer Upper Style always incorporates beautiful, inspirational and heart-felt words in one way or another. I’ve always been a fan of “word art” but I especially love how Joanna personalizes her spaces with them. From last names, to inspirational quotes, to wedding vows, you can personalize your home and add beautiful conversation pieces just like these.
Oh and when in doubt, grab a unique farmhouse sign like the one in Joanna’s kitchen! LOVE!
