Today I’m sharing the scoop on Summer 2022 fashion trends, what I’m seeing on the horizon and what you can actually pull into your wardrobe now! Sometimes the fashion trends can be a bit impractical so let’s break them down, pull them into our summer wardrobes and best of all, make them mesh well with your own personal style!

Brighten Up:
The biggest trend I see is COLOR! If you haven’t heard, the major trend of “neutrals only” is coming to an end. If you love neutrals, never fear, there’s still definitely a place for them in your wardrobe but we are beginning to see a shift to brighter, bolder and even neon color pops!
You can wear this trend in layers with multiple bright colors – have fun with it and don’t be afraid to make a statement! I would suggest complimentary colors or a monochromatic look.
I’ve especially noticed a huge push for oranges, reds and pink hues together!
Even if you’re used to a more muted, earthy color palette, and aren’t ready to shine like the sun in a full on “suit of color”, I still encourage you to play around with this trend by focusing on one statement color at a time. Maybe grab one bright shirt or one bright handbag for the seasons ahead. Only invest in your favorites!
Crochet & Knits:
Okay this one gives me all the granny-vibes… in the best way possible! If you’re also an old soul you’re probably loving this trend but maybe also intimidated by it and not sure how to style it in a practical way.
I think we’ll be seeing a lot of crochet tops, swim covers and handbags in mainstream fashion. All of these are easy items to implement for summertime!
I hear crochet maxi length dresses are the biggest fashion statement this season so be on the lookout for those!
Whites:
Okay, not going to lie, I LOVE seeing this trend and it’s so chic and so classy BUT…
Hello, my name is Lauren, I’m a mom of 3, I live out on a farm and I’m a mess… How can I make this work?!
If you’re anything like me, you’ll want to implement this trend in some creative ways to freshen up your summer wardrobe but also keep it practical for real life outside of Instagram!
Pieces that would be very practical are white bodysuits and tanks for layering (cute under those bright neon colors we talked about above). White fitted tees to layer under jumpers, overalls, and tank dresses are also perfect for summer!
Cargos & Utilitarian:
Yes, cargos are coming back… but can we just celebrate the fact that we’ll be getting extra pockets! Haha!
While you may not be quite ready for the full-on boxy cargo pant looks of the 90’s there are some chic styles out there to amp up your summer wardrobe without being too much of a statement.
Watch for more pockets, belts and buttons along with that heftier canvas and cotton fabrics.
Platforms/Slides:
For Summer 2022 we’re seeing all the sandals get a boost! Lots of bold sandals with platforms – hello comfort!
Slides are also making a splash – perfect for the pool days too! I’ve even seen the return of the Adidas slides… yes, now they’re fashionable too!
So whether you’re going sporty or chic, slip on the slides and gain an inch or two in height this summer with the platform footwear trend!
Cutouts:
From everyday bralettes to swimwear to evening gowns, we’re continuing to see a lot of cutouts! I think this is a trend that can be very fun for summer.
Here are some more practical cutout pieces to inspire you for summer:
All That Shimmers:
Post pandemic the theme seems to be “LOOK AT ME! I’M HERE! I’M ALIVE!” – All the sequins and shimmer fabrics are on the rise and you know what, I think I could get behind this one!
I like to think we can shimmer and shine and not have to wait for New Year’s Eve to show it off! Also a side note on accessories, be on the lookout for chain belts and chandelier earrings to make their appearance too!
Low-Rise:
Okay, don’t hate me… just reporting what I’m hearing out there! Low rise is coming back… don’t panic… word on the street is it’s not super low like Brittany Spears back in the day, just slightly lower than before. Low-rise is also trending in pant suits!
Mini Skirts:
Again, can’t say I’m too excited for this trend but I’m open to slightly shorter hemlines than we’re used to.
Contradictory to this trend we’re also seeing a lot of maxi skirts so my guess seems to be skirts are just here to stay as a hot trend! I’ll still be rocking my midi skirts this summer but seems like there’s a lot of hype around the extremes from mini to maxi coming soon!
Y2K:
There’s a lot of talk in high fashion around the era of Y2K trends. Personally when I see these butterflies I feel like I’m 12 all over again. Ha!
Wow… did you think we’d see the day?!
You remember those tops that looked like they’d fit a small doll but then stretched to full size?…
I think we called it “bubble fabric” back then but today they’re calling it “popcorn fabric“. Wow, not sure I’m here for this trend but we’ll see! I may be rocking my butterfly clips, popcorn top and low rise pants before you can sing “Bye Bye Bye”
Sheer:
“Naked fashion” is apparently a rising trend from major fashion houses. I won’t be sharing these photos here but I’m sure if you’re interested you could give it a google! I can’t see this one translating to practical fashion for every day folk but I guarantee we’ll continue to see… more than we want to… on celebrities.
Sorry, only a fan of sheer in covered, classy cuts! Here’s a more conservative example:
Sheer is a given for formal dresses but I also think we will see it in mainstream fashion more by next spring.
Florals:
If you’ve been hanging with me for any amount of time now you know I’m jumping up and down for this one. I wouldn’t care if they say it’s going out… I honestly believe florals are always in… maybe a different style of floral but it’s pretty darn timeless!
We’re seeing a lot of variations in florals from large colorful prints to small ditsy vintage-inspired prints. Also seeing more and more patchwork and piecing in mainstream fashion for Summer 2022!
Gingham:
This was a huge print for spring and I see it continuing through summer 2022!
I find gingham plaid to be so classic and reminiscent of the good ole days! There’s something so light, airy and and almost innocent about a gingham print in a babydoll top or dress.
Well that sums up my trend report for Summer 2022!
What trends were your favorite? Comment below!
I’d LOVE to know which trend you’re excited for and which trend has you squirming a bit?
As always with trends, take what you love and leave the rest! I love to see what’s happening in the world of fashion but ultimately I want to wear what I feel my best in – and honestly you should never stop wearing or start wearing a trend just because someone on the internet says it’s “out” or “in” – Haha!
Have fun expressing yourself with your summer wardrobe!
Until next time! Have a great day, friend!
