Our windows are open again! Yippee! Let the cool breezes blow! I absolutely love how the weather has been cooling off. Although, I cannot believe how fast this summer is passing. It is already back-to-school time for heaven’s sake!
What happened to summer?! I feel like this is a common theme.
Time, who do you think you are?! Flying…racing…passing me by…
I’ve got plans, you know?
Like…
Okay, so maybe I lost my list of “summer to-do’s” but I’m sure I had one at some point. I have a list for everything after all.
Today, for example, I have it on my list to blog… about doughnuts – quick, speedy, record-setting doughnuts. It is about time I show “Time” who’s boss! Ha! Join me.
“Semi-Homemade” Easy Glazed Doughnuts
First, approach the can of biscuits slowly. Carefully open… POP!
Scream…. and continue. Those little boogers get me every time! I jump when it pops just like Will Farrell does in Elf when testing the jack-in-the-box! I make that same face, haha!
We have a striking resemblance, wouldn’t you say…
Next, place a hole in the center of each biscuit.
I use a sewing thimble to make the hole because that is how my grandma always did it. Makes me smile when I find myself doing things like her.
I remember walking home to grandma’s house after school with my cousins. We could always smell these doughnuts before we even entered the house! We would start to race across the front yard and into the house because we knew this special treat would go fast!
We knew the war was on for the doughnut holes!
Heat the oil to med/high heat. Test the oil with a doughnut hole. When small bubbles surround the hole, the oil is ready.
Place biscuits in hot oil, two at a time. It will only take a few seconds on each side to cook the doughnuts (less than 10 seconds on each side). I only do a couple at a time!
Remove doughnuts onto a plate lined with paper towels to catch the excess oil.
To make the icing, combine the butter, milk and vanilla. Whisk in the powdered sugar until you get the desired consistency.
Ice the doughnuts while still warm.
Eat warm. They will melt in your mouth! Especially the doughnut holes!
No one needs to know that the doughnut holes even existed *wink – wink*
- 2 Small Cans of Biscuits (any flavor works – I chose buttermilk.)
- Frying oil (Canola or Vegetable Oil – Enough to cover bottom 1/4” of pan)
- 2 Tbsp. Melted Butter
- 1 1/2 to 2 c. Powdered Sugar
- 1/8 c. Milk
- 1/2 tsp. Vanilla Extract
- Open canned biscuits and place a hole in the center of each biscuit.
- Heat the oil to med/high heat. Test the oil with a doughnut hole. When small bubbles surround the hole, the oil is ready.
- Place biscuits in hot oil, two at a time. It will only take a few seconds on each side to cook the doughnuts (less than 10 seconds on each side). I only do a couple at a time to ensure I do not burn any.
- Remove doughnuts onto a plate lined with paper towels to catch the excess oil.
- To make the icing, combine the butter, milk and vanilla. Whisk in the powdered sugar until you get the desired consistency.
- Ice the doughnuts while still warm.[br]Eat warm. They will melt in your mouth! Especially the doughnut holes!
For all you headed back to school, I hope you enjoy these as much as I did growing up!
Thanks for reading!

Oh, now this is just dangerous. Now I’m going to have to make these. And then I’ll have to eat them. ALL of them. Also: if you have to turn on your stove or oven, it counts as completely homemade in this house. (Box of brownies? homemade. Frozen pizza? homemade.)

Haha! Thanks for stopping by Kelly, I always enjoy your comments, so funny! And yes, frozen pizza is totally homemade! 😉

These look delish. I think I will use my electric fryer and take outside so I don’t have to deal with the grease! The thimble idea is precious… this may be great outdoors breakfast project with kiddos this weekend!

Great idea, that sounds fun! A small tip: don’t get too many going at once, they cook REALLY quickly! 🙂 They are the best when fresh. I hope the kiddos love them!
