Day and night we’re checking cows!
It’s calving season on our farm and the chores are piling up.
Feed hay.
Check cows.
And now… bottle feed the twins!
That’s right, WE HAD TWINS!
I couldn’t believe it! We had lost a baby calf just days before and then out of nowhere God sent two! He always has a plan doesn’t He?!
So for several evenings following their birth we have bottle fed them. We are hoping that mama cow will have enough milk for both soon but in the meantime we have to keep them strong.
I’ve always loved having a bottle calf on the farm! I remember when I was old enough to drive the four-wheeler my dad entrusted my sister and I to take a bottle down to the barn and feed one of our bottle calves. It was such a privilege to feed those beautiful babies!
Ren and I rode along the first night with Dan but it was a wet and rainy evening so we watched from the pickup.
But the next night we helped!
Ren watches Dan so closely. Makes me smile!
Ren was a bit distracted by the neighbor dog, Nelson (better known as “arf, arf”)!
He won’t say doggy, just makes a barking noise. Haha! 😉
Poor Nelson didn’t stand a chance against this persistent little boy. He followed him everywhere!
Oh hey dad, I’d help but I’m too busy chasing Nelson!
Meanwhile I snapped a few pics of the twins as I carefully watched my adventurous son out of the corner of my eye. Skipping over cow patties and tripping over brush, he was bound and determined to play with the dog!
Aren’t they adorable?! Always love their eyelashes!
She loved it when I pet her soft head.
And then there’s brother bear…Boy was that bottle tasty!
They both seem to be doing well and eating from mama too!
It’s never ideal to have bottle calves but I still love that chore just as much as I did back when I was first appointed to it! Brings back good memories childhood on the farm!
Did you have any “favorite” farm chores from childhood?
Thanks for stopping by!
