Happy St. Patrick’s Day!!!
Hope you all are having a festive weekend!
It has been a whirlwind of a weekend for us! We went to see our good friends on Friday night for the housewarming I told you about. And on Saturday, Dan and I worked all day at a local bull sale with some family friends. We are a little exhausted today to say the least! However, I wanted to stop, unwind, and recap some fun with you today!
First off…
French onion dip served with potato chips and a coke reminds me so much of summers at my grandma’s house. It is one of my all-time favorite childhood snacks!
I have been craving this so much lately and thought I should try to make something similar for the housewarming on Friday! Against my mother’s great advice of serving only your best dishes and “proven recipes” to others… I set out in a completely different, experimental direction. I am definitely the first-born child… can’t ya tell!?!
Luckily, it turned out great! Everyone loved the it!
This “grown-up” version of french onion dip was enjoyed with classic potato chips, sweet potato ridges… and maybe a few cold ones!
- 1 c. greek plain yogurt (or sour cream)
- 1/4 c. mayo (or a light version)
- 2 med. sweet yellow onions, chopped coarsely
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/2 tsp. dill
- 2 tsp. Worcestershire sauce
- pinch of salt
- dash of lemon pepper seasoning (optional)
- olive oil (about 1-2 tsp.)
- On med/low heat, saute the onions in olive oil about 10 min.
- Add garlic on top of onion and continue to cook, stirring occasionally, for another 25-30 minutes or until onion mixture is caramelized (golden brown). Then allow to cool.
- Measure into a bowl the greek yogurt, mayo, dill, Worcestershire, salt and lemon pepper.
- In a food processor or blender, puree the onion mixture until to desired consistency for dip. I left mine slightly coarse.
- Add onions to the yogurt mixture and stir until blended.
- Chill overnight.
Dig in, ya’ll!
Now, for a SUNDAY SNAPSHOT recap!
What is your kind of green!?! Happy St. Patrick’s Day!

French Onion dip was my favorite growing up, and it has been FAR too long since I have had it!! I think I may have to try to come up with a vegan version! I love how you dipped sweet potato chips into it, too. That sounds tasty :).

French Onion dip was one of my favorites as a kid as well. I’d pretty much given it up. And when I saw this recipe, I knew I would make it to take to my women’s study group tonight. It was a hit, and they all want the recipe. 🙂 So I’m going to copy it for them and say it was from your web site. Thanks for a keeper!
