My Dream Home Office Makeover
Come along as I create my dreamy, color-drenched home office makeover featuring DIY Walmart built‑ins and a budget‑friendly design. From unorganized and dysfunctional, to creative and useful, this overdue home office makeover is a dream come true!

Overdue Home Office Makeover
For years, my home office has been the heart of my creativity, my business, and countless family memories. It’s the room where I’ve written, dreamed, planned, and raised babies at my feet. But somewhere along the way, it became cluttered, tired, and no longer inspiring. This year, I finally decided it was time to give this space the transformation it deserved — and I’m thrilled to share the full makeover with you.
Below, you’ll find the story behind the project, the design choices that made the biggest impact, and the budget‑friendly DIYs that completely changed the feel of the room. I’ll also be including before‑and‑after photos so you can see just how far this space has come.
Clearing Out Years of Life and Starting Fresh
Before any paintbrushes or power tools came out, I had to face the hardest part: clearing the room. This office held years of memories — baby toys tucked in corners, stacks of notebooks, bins of business supplies, and sentimental pieces from every season of life. Emptying it felt like turning a page.
But once the room was cleared, I could finally see the potential. The blank slate was energizing, and I knew exactly the direction I wanted to take it.

The Power of Color Drenching
The biggest design decision — and the one that changed everything — was color drenching. Instead of painting just the walls, I painted the trim, shelving, and architectural details in the same rich shade: Benjamin Moore Phillipsburg Blue (eggshell).
This technique creates a dramatic, cohesive look that instantly elevates a space. The color wraps around the room like a warm hug, making it feel cozy, moody, and intentional. It’s amazing how one paint color, used boldly, can transform the entire atmosphere.

DIY Built‑Ins Using Affordable Walmart Shelves
Custom built‑ins can be expensive, but I wanted the high‑end look without the high‑end price tag. So, I turned to my new, favorite budget‑friendly hacks: Walmart bookshelves.
By adding trim, molding, and lighting, I was able to turn simple, inexpensive shelves into beautiful built‑ins that look completely custom. This project added both style and function — giving me storage, display space, and a stunning focal point for the room. It was a win-win being able to upcycle the shelves that I already had as well as create the vision that I dreamed of.
If you’re looking for a beginner‑friendly DIY that makes a huge impact, this one is a winner. I have a step-by-step tutorial of how I transformed these Walmart shelves into my dream built-ins on my blog here: INSERT LINK

Finishing Touches That Made the Space Feel Like “Me”
Once the paint dried and the built‑ins were complete, it was time for my favorite part: styling. I layered in warm lamp lighting, a new rug, meaningful décor, and functional desk accessories that make the space feel both beautiful and practical.
Every detail was chosen with intention — to create a workspace that inspires creativity and feels like a retreat.

Home Office Makeover Made with Love
One of my favorite parts of this makeover was having my kids help along the way. A bonus to color drenching this office was letting the littles help with the painting. Since every inch of the walls, ceiling and trim were going to be painted the same color, there was little for them to mess up.
