Happy Monday!
I know I said I would post about house updates soon…
Well, “soon” turned into “later”… about two weeks later! Time is flying and progress on our house is far surpassing my ability to photograph and post about it simultaneously! Thanks for allowing me to back-track when necessary!
It’s amazing how quickly the house structure is coming together. It has been so fun to see our floor plan become a 3D reality so quickly. Here are some photos of the house as the first walls made their appearance.
They started on the east side of our home to cover the new basement. This area of the home will be extended living and dining space as well as a new master suite.
My favorite part of this addition is the open living area where we can finally entertain more than one or two people at a time without feeling claustrophobic! And not to mention windows, windows, and more windows! 🙂
This is the new half of the living area with new basement stairs to the right.
The new master suite all framed in…
Bedroom on the left with walkthrough closet into the bathroom on the right.
And this view… love my old barn!
I caught my reflection in the old porch windows while taking photos of the new space. New baby, new house, new changes, new feelings and memories.
I can’t explain the feeling I get as we build the new into the old, build up new walls and tear down others, create a new space for memories and alter the space we had memories in before…
The second week of construction, we began to see the most change as they took down walls to connect the spaces.
Even though so much is gone now, I feel like I could walk right through my front door and still see my home the way it was before. It’s surreal and almost dreamlike to see it now.
I thought this part would be very emotional for me but it’s been much easier than I thought. I think the baby kicking inside me keeps me focused on the finish line. We loved this house before but will love it even more for our new family once it’s complete. Changes we make every day are influenced by the anticipation of our new family – soon it won’t be just the two of us living here.
Before I could blink, the south side addition was up as well! This addition will give us a mudroom, laundry space, bathroom and extended kitchen area with seating.
I’m most excited to finally have a mudroom. This is of utmost importance when you live out here! Those muddy boots, snowy bibs, wet coats…all of the elements (including manure, if I’m being honest) can now be contained in one area… and not in the center of our home!
I can now quickly stop the mess and throw everything into the laundry, strategically placed right inside the back door!
Like I said, the progress is moving much faster than my documentation. I hope to take more photos and write again soon. I love this pace of progress and can’t wait to see the changes each day!
Thanks for stopping by and enjoying the ride with me!
Have a great week,
Lauren

Hi!
I commented right under you at View Along the Way, and I had to come say hi just for your blog’s name alone. 🙂 But now that I see this house project, I have to follow along!
We built a house a couple of years ago in a very rustic style to make it look old, so this is right up my alley. I am so excited to see!!!
Nice “meeting” you!
Amy
