The Update Details:
As you’ll see in the video, this room has served several purposes over the years. It’s the oldest room in this original 1903 farmhouse. My husband and I first used this as our bedroom before adding onto our home in 2014.
Since then, this bedroom became a nursery and then a bedroom for our two boys. I hadn’t done much to the decor until now. It amazes me how quickly time flies when raising little ones!
Peel & Stick Wallpaper
To update this space I first decided to add peel and stick wallpaper. This DIY was a fun way to update this space – it made a big difference in the feel and brightness of this bedroom!
If you’re considering doing peel-and-stick wallpaper anytime soon, check out my tips and tricks in this post here!
Linen Curtains & Pillows:
My second DIY project was to freshen up the curtains! I made these simple off-white linen curtains for her room and a fun yellow linen pillow with lace to pull out the yellow in the wallpaper.
Paint & Furniture:
I refreshed the paint on the board and batten – which was in dire need of a fresh coat! It’s hard to keep a true farmhouse white ya know!! Haha!
I kept much of the furniture the same as we’re slowly making a transition out of the crib and into a big girl bed. I refinished this dresser for my son’s nursery several years ago – you can see that before/after reveal here.
Decor With Age & Story:
The rest of this girl’s farmhouse bedroom came together with simple, feminine and antique touches. I hung this handmade embroidered dress with an antique hanger to soften the wall above her bed.
This old frame was the perfect compliment with faux wildflower stems. It added just the right amount of whimsy to this space. I love the simplicity, the imperfections and the story.
I bought this dress when pregnant with my first child. (We never found out the gender of our babies during pregnancy – I loved the thrill and surprise… it was also incredibly fun to watch our family squirm with anticipation! haha!)
As you can guess, we had a BOY!
So this dress hung in the nursery closet for years until…
WE HAD ANOTHER BOY! Ha!
My friends and I would laugh and say “remember how you bought that dress… I think you jinxed your chance at ever having a girl!”
Finally in 2020, we welcomed a sweet baby girl! This dress had to wait years but she finally wore it for Easter in 2021 – and all felt right in the world.
I love adding “story pieces” to our home!
Personalized Touches Make It Home:
Above the long distressed dresser I framed a photo of Reese from some recent family photos.
Repurposed Items:
I repurposed the white floating shelves and updated them by adding the corbels from our original farmhouse front porch! They are old, weathered and distressed yet so dainty and perfect for this space!
I collected some old books and other antique items from my collection to decorate her shelves.
In addition to the old dress, I bought this rocking horse when pregnant with my first baby (back when I had time to shop, haha)! I’m not sure I’ll ever be able to part with it either!
Everyday Items Become Decor:
I tried to keep the shelves simple and incorporated some of her accessories. They serve a dual purpose this way! She’ll be growing out of those glitter booties soon but they sure look cute on a shelf too!
I couldn’t think of a more perfect quote for my little girl’s farmhouse bedroom. This one fits her! “In a field of roses, she is a wildflower”
A wildflower ready to take on the world!
I hope you enjoyed this girl’s farmhouse bedroom reveal! Let me know in the comments below your favorite decor touch in this bedroom!
