DIY Baby Basket Changing Pad

Holy grandmother’s spatula it’s already Thursday!!!

I learned this expression earlier this week and thought it was worth repeating. Haha!

I just laughed for you in case you don’t appreciate my corny humor!

Anywho, today I wanted to share another quick DIY I used in Ren’s nursery. It’s so simple but I thought it warranted a post anyway.

 The Inspiration:

Remember this photo from my Nursery room inspiration post? One of my favs!

 What You’ll Need:

  • Large Shallow Basket (I searched and searched for an antique with no luck, so I grabbed this one at Hobby Lobby)
  • Foam Seat Cushions (Buy at any craft store or that place that starts with a “W” and takes all my money)
  • Scissors
  • Sheet (I used the smallest pack & play sheet I could find)
  • Burp Rag (just a spare white one) *optional

All you need to do is cut the cushion padding to fit the basket. You want it to be pretty snug. I made mine flush with the top edge of the basket (I stacked 2 cushions in this basket to get that height – the pack came with four cushions but they are pretty thin).

For this particular basket I had to cut the last cushion in half to fit. I didn’t glue any of the cushions together, just laid them in.

Once the cushions are cut and placed inside the basket, I laid a spare white burp rag onto the cushion and covered it all with a small white pack & play sheet. I used the burp rag as an extra absorbent layer. Accidents do happen but the extra layer makes clean up much easier and washer friendly! 😉

To complete the changing station I added a cute basket full of diapers.

Changing stinky diapers can be anything but cute, but I sure do enjoy this space with Ren.

Any ideas for making my wet wipes cute?

Thanks!

  1. I was eyeing the same $150 basket from your inspiration board and I LOVE your take on it! Great idea! Thank you!!!

    1. Thanks Kim! I didn’t realize that other basket was $150! Wow! I think I’ll take my 50% off Hobby Lobby Basket any day over that… especially for dirty diapers! 😉

    1. Thank you for the suggestions! That made me think maybe I could find a cute kleenex dispenser and spray paint the exterior with “vintage looking glass” paint or something! That could be cute! Thanks for stopping by! 🙂
