So my sewing room is still a work in progress. It always amazes me how long it takes to redo a room!
Slowly but surely, one project at a time, I will finish my dream room! I think I can… I think I can…
I thought I would share a recent addition to the room. It was such an easy project and I was really happy with the outcome.
PIN BOARD LOVE!
Here is an easy step-by-step guide to making your own metallic pin board and jumbo push pins.
Striped Pin Board:
What you need:
1) Four-pack of cork board tiles (Find at any craft store)
2) Spray paint (Choose the color you prefer. I chose to do a metallic gold. It shines only when light reflects off of it.)
3) Painting tape and paper for the stipes. (Note: My design needed two different widths of tape. You can see in the photo the blue tape is slightly wider than the white tape. I also taped paper on the corner for the widest area of cork.)
4) Tape measure
5) Pencil for marking
6) Newspaper or cardboard for spray painting
In the photo at the top right, you can also see I ran out of blue tape and had to improvise to finish the board. I’m not always fully prepared with supplies but ready to improvise when needed! Ha!
Directions:
- Starting with one tile determine how large you want your stripes. Mark the first tile accordingly and tape to cover areas you do not want painted.
- Place the second tile very close to the first and use the pencil to mark the placement for the tape on the second tile. This will ensure the stripes line up exactly when finished.
- Continue this process for the third and fourth tiles.
- Lay out all four tiles and check to make sure all tape is secure and each stripe lines up exactly with the adjecent tile.
- Lay the masterpiece on some newspaper or cardboard and spray paint according to the paint directions. (may need a couple layers.)
- After paint has completely dried. Carefully peel off the painters tape to reveal your new pin board.
- Use the double-sided tape/foam pieces from the four-pack of cork board to hang the new pin board on your wall.
The great thing about this design is that you can change it up. You could also hang all pieces horizontally in opposite directions to achieve a chevron (zig-zag) pattern!
Glitz Jumbo Pins:
What you need:
1) Jumbo Push Pins (I found these on clearance at a dollar store)
2) Spray Paint (preferred color)
3) Glitter (preferred color)
4) Glue (I used regular Elmer’s glue)
5) Cardboard Box for painting
Directions:
- Push the jumbo pins into the side of a cardboard box so you can spray paint them without ruining the pin’s sharpness.
- Spray every pin thoroughly and allow to dry completely.
- Once dry, spread a thin layer of glue on top of the push pin.
- Sprinkle with glitter and set aside.
- Repeat for the remaining push pins.
I decided to do a few with glitter and left a couple without for some variety on my pin board.
I hope you enjoy this project. Remember the colors and patterns can be endless! Get creative!
Have a great weekend!
